Piazza Navona, Rome

Your trip to Italy begins in Rome, the nation’s capital and the heart of the ancient Roman Empire. You’ll quickly be dazzled by the wonders of the Eternal City. Spend a day exploring the Vatican Museums, beating the crowds with an early entrance pass. Skip the line and explore the galleries of the museum, including the marvelous Raphael Rooms, before reaching the Sistine Chapel, where you can gaze upon Michelangelo’s heavenly frescoes. Continue to St. Peter’s Basilica to see the Pieta and experience the overwhelming grandeur of the world’s largest church.

On Day 3 in Rome, you will enjoy a tour of the city which includes a visit to the ancient sites of the Colosseum, once the home of Roman era entertainment and the Forum, the political centre of Imperial Rome.

From Rome, travel by high speed train and reach Naples, the treasure of the Amalfi Coast and the birthplace of Neapolitan culture. From Naples, you will transfer to nearby Pompeii to explore an ancient city that was engulfed by volcanic ash during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. That evening, continue to Amalfi.

Amalfi is small and beautiful, perched on the steep cliffs of the coastline that bears its name. Despite its size, the town was a powerhouse during the Middle Ages. Unfortunately, many of its historical buildings were destroyed during an earthquake in the 14th century. Of the few that remain, you’ll want to explore the Sant’Andrea Cathedral, with its unique Arab and Byzantine style. In addition to exploring the city centre, stroll along the breathtaking cliffs.

Spend some time in Sorrento, visit the nearby islands of Capri and AnaCapri and discover the tourquoise waters of the Blue Grotto. Cool off with a dip in the Mediterranean, then proceed to Amalfi with at stop in Positano. After a couple days in the Amalfi Coast, return to Rome, passing once again through Naples and board your high speed train back to Rome. In Rome, you’ll connect to the airport or train station to continue your onward journey.
