Hidden Gems Italy

Many tourists come to witness the oldest evidence of prehistoric civilizations in Europe. The mysterious Nuraghe monuments that date back to 1500 BCE are a highlight for anyone interested in history. They are made from rock and believed to have been used for sacred rituals and observation towers. You can see them all over Sardinia. The most famous one is Su Nuraxi Nuraghe in Barumini and the only one on the UNESCO world heritage site list.

Hidden Gems Italy

Sardinians are famous for living long lives, but nobody knows why. It could be their love of milk thistle tea, which is an antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory benefits. Or it could be their healthy diet that includes plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, beans and not much meat. Lifestyle also seems to play a factor and many Sardinians walk a lot, especially the farmers. They also love red wine, which many Italians believe helps longevity.

Your vacation in Sardinia is sure to include some blissful beach days. Rena Bianca Beach (Spiaggia Rena Bianca) is known for blue waters and white sand and you can go snorkeling, scuba diving, pedal boating and kayaking or soak in the rays. Within walking distance is Santa Teresa di Gallura's seaside village where you can find great seafood restaurants, trendy bars, and some interesting shops. While you are in the area, check out Torre di Longosardo, the largest Spanish tower in Sardinia and the village ruins of Lu Brandali.

Cagliari is Sardinia's capital city with colorful buildings, historic architecture, and plenty to see and do. The 13th-century Cagliari Cathedral, the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Cagliari and the hilltop Castello give a diverse range of sites to take in for culture-loving sightseers. Quaint markets, galleries, boutique stores are great places to pick up a few souvenirs.
